[Tracking Every Minute]-Day 27 – Friday Folly
This post is the twenty seventh post in the #trackingeveryminute challenge. You can follow along here.
Yesterday, I was stuck deciding between working and spending time with my kids. Ended up striking perfect balance. Today, I was not balanced, I was tilted toward that family side, which I am ok with.

8:30 – 9:30. Wake up and read.
9:30 – 10:30. Comm block. Emails and calls.
10:30 – 12:30. First and only deep work block of the day.
12:30 – 2:30. Lunch at the house with family.
2:30 – 5:30. Park time with family.
5:30 – 7:30. Hang out at home.
7:30 – 8:30. Family dinner.
8:30 – 11:00. Played some card and board games and eventually ended up watching a movie together.
Predicting the Future
I wrote about the unlikelihood of achieving a perfect balance daily. Yesterday, I was able to strike that seemingly perfect balance. Today. I did not. It isn’t that I didn’t want to, it’s just the way the day worked out.
If the weather was worse, or the kids were out with friends, I could see choosing to get some work done in the afternoon. But this was not the case. The weather was beautiful and the kids weren’t doing anything.
So I chose to take advantage of the fact that I could take the time to hang out and we did.
I know the entire point of this challenge is to figure out where my time went last year. If I was tracking my time throughout the year, I might have noticed that I wasn’t achieving some of my goals because I was spending time with my kids.
If that was the case, I would have been ok with it. That is the stage of life I am in with them. They still need a lot of my time. I am a few years away from them needing none of my time.
December is obviously not representative of a normal month. I’ve learned enough during this challenge that I will probably continue it into next month to get a better understanding of how I am using my time during a “normal” month.
Main Takeaways
- I’m spending a lot of time with family, which is awesome. I am blessed.
- Curious if I don’t have time to achieve some goals because I am spending time with family.
