[Tracking Every Minute]-Day 14 – The Calm After the Storm
This post is the fourteenth in the #trackingeveryminute challenge. You can follow along here.
We made it through the sleep over. We’re tired, they’re tired, but it’s over. I guess I slept last night, but not really. Constant laughing and horseplay from the 10 boys sleeping over. Honestly, my wife bore the brunt of it. We’re both tired, and they are still in the house when we wake up…

6:30 – 10:00. With 10 11 year-old boys in the house routine goes out the window. We’re just trying to survive here.
10:00 – 11:00. Boxing instructor came over to help us with some activity for these boys. It was much appreciated and a great way to finish off the party.
11:00 – 2:00. The calm after the storm. Took some time to catch our breathe, maybe even sneak in a nap.
2:00 – 7:00. Wife went to gather up my daughters. We just hung around the house and tried to rest up.
7:00 – ???. Went out to dinner with friends. We had a blast but we are going to pay for it later.
Why am I logging nonsense?
If you read this update, you might have noticed, not much happened. In the sense that I didn’t do any work today. I also didn’t log much quality time with the kids. I just logged generic events. Why bother?
First, I am doing this for all of you, the readers, but more importantly, I am doing this for me. I committed to logging every day, not just weekdays or days that I got some work in. I knew going in there were going to be days like this, where nothing really “happens.” Its December, we have Christmas, New Years, kids out of school, this is not a typical month.
If I can get this habit working in a month this crazy, I should be able to make it happen during “regular” months.
Also, I’ve found that its easier to commit to doing something every day as opposed to 3 or 5 times a week. It’s easier for me to walk 10,000 steps every day then it is for me to do it 5 days a week. I don’t know why, but that is just what works for me.
Main Takeaways
- Log every day, no matter what.
- Two nights of less than ideal sleep is a killer.
