[Tracking Every Minute]-Day 8 – Back to Where it Started
This challenge to track every minute of the day for the month, started a week ago. This is my second Sunday of the challenge. I am going to write a separate recap of the first week.
Here is what today looked like:

8:00 – 10:30. Got a very late start on the day. I planned on waking up closer to my normal time, 6, to bake some bread. That’s right, I’ve stayed on the sourdough train even years after covid. This will come back to bite me.
10:30 – 11:30. Hour drive to my sons soccer tournament.
11:30 – 12:00. Only had half an hour, but I had my laptop on me and took advantage from the car. Happy I followed my advice from yesterday to have my laptop on me.
12:00 – 1:00. Sons soccer game. The best part about sports is that it’s a safe microcosm of the real world. You are going to fail more often than you succeed. But you keep going and trying your hardest. After barely playing and being down on himself yesterday, my son played and played well today.
1:00 – 3:30. After soccer, its time for basketball. Stopped in at another of my sons favorite spots, Raising Canes for lunch. I was hoping for an additional hour or 30 minutes to get some work in, but it didn’t happen. Time was well spent hanging with my son.
3:30 – 4:30. First basketball game. Mother-in-law joined us and she brought my daughter with her.
4:30 – 5:30. What’s better than 1 basketball game? 2. We have an hour break in between them. In addition to keeping my laptop on me, I’ve also learned to keep children’s activities on me as well. In this case, a soccer ball. My son was with his team, but my daughter had no one else around but me. So we kicked the soccer ball around for the majority of time in between games.
5:30 – 6:30. Basketball game 2.
6:30 – 7:45. Drive home from the basketball games.
7:45 – 8:45. Family is reunited at home and we have dinner together.
8:45 – 11:00. This is the latest I have gone to sleep all week. The culprit. Bread. I told you at the beginning of the day recap that I would regret not baking earlier. Even worse, I fell asleep on the couch and burned the bottom of my bread. Not a total loss, but the bread was really good, it would have been perfect with a bottom crust.
Main Takeaways
- Presence and awareness is important in all aspects of life, not just at work.
- Take advantage of the time you have. Highlights of the day for me were interactions with my kids. Watching my son overcome adversity, kicking the soccer ball with my daughter. Nothing extravagant or expensive, just being there.
- Waking up early is important even on the weekend. Bread fiasco proves that point.
